Has anyone discussed why 'Ricochet' was overdubbed onto the Coventry Cathedral film? If my memory serves me correctly, the reason given at the time was the original audio recording had been stolen. I do wonder though if Virgin/TD/Tony Palmer thought that the original audio was not interesting enough...

I went to the gigs at Hammersmith and Croydon in 1978. Musically, I think TD soon realized this more conventional band line-up approach didn't suit them, hence the quick abandonment. A nice memory from Croydon was I got to know the roadcrew and after the show they let me up on stage to have a play o...

Michael Hoenig - Departure From The Northern Wasteland

2008 is the 30th anniversary of this superb album. It has been my favourite album for most of those years and is quite rightly regarded as a classic of the Berlin School genre. Inspired by minimalist composers like Philip Glass and Steve Reich, what makes this album outstanding for me is the subtle ...

Musically 'White Eagle' is a great album and 'Mojave Plan' one of TDs best ever pieces. But I've always thought the production on the album is too dry (lacking in reverb) and there's quite a bit of tape hiss. 'Mojave Plan' as previewed on the 1981 tour was much more powerful. The sequencer rhythms w...

Peel had a fantasic dry sense of humour and of course helped promote TD massively before their breakthrough. But I've always been uneasy with Peel's overnight abandonment of 'prog' and defection to punk in 1976. I wonder what he thought of TDs music after 1976?, because the last time I ever heard hi...

Here is a transcription of the first part of the interview from BBC Radio London 'Breakthrough' programme, April 1975. The transcription Andy posted previously is actually the second part, which was broadcast the following week. Mike Sparrow (programme presenter): And now to the moment we’ve all bee...

I travelled to Ipswich Gaumont to see TD in 1980. Arrived about 2.00pm and wandered round the back of the venue to find roadies loading in the gear. No one seemed to mind my presence and I soon found myself on the stage talking to Wolfgang Duren who was showing me the new PPG equipment and giving me...

I've seen Camel more times than any other band (about 40 gigs since 1974) so you can imagine how special they are to me. Andrew Latimer is one of most criminally ignored musicians in rock history and like all fans I wish him all strength in his recovery. The current fashion obsessed music media has ...

The legacy of the RAH 75 show is enhanced by the fact that it was so excellently recorded by the BBC ( Radio 3 Outside Broadcast engineers). It's criminal that it took 28 years before an official release. Some of you will know that the second and third pieces from the concert were broadcast (in mono...

March 1975. I was 16 years old. Alan Freeman played the first few minutes of 'Rubycon Part 1' on his Saturday afternoon BBC Radio 1 show. I was so impressed, I immediately got the tube down to the Royal Albert Hall to buy a ticket (50p) for the TD show on 2nd April. My seat turned out to be almost i...

Thanks to the people who've bought my 'Coruscation' album and the appreciative comments. Thanks to to Conrad for promoting it and suggesting I join the forum. I've been a TD fan since 1974. I was lucky enough to be at some of their most noteworthy gigs - Royal Albert Hall 75,76, Croydon 75, 76 and a...
