the problem is with the term cutting edge is as soon you label one group as being just that, then they're out of date. The only truly new sounds come or came from musical research places like Ircam and then only as Academic excercises. This area of EM is IMHO dead, there aren't any radical sounds to heard from analog or digital synths at the moment, yes there are variations...but basically you're using the same sound architecture. Maybe the next 10-15 years might bring something totally new. Until then I'll be just enjoying the music ;)
