No Man's Land:

Emulator: doing the strange 'Waterphone' sounds, 'ethnic' high-end loops and 'orchestral' bass punches

Emulator and the Jupiter 8 doing the 'Steel Drums'

Yamaha DX7: 'Bass Percussion' pattern

Jupiter 8's Arpegiator clocked by the Roland TR808 doing the 'Tabla' sounds

plus a PPG Waveterm controlled by a custom event generator doing the metalic rhythm

the rest of the album? total guess work...but probably:

MemoryMoog, Rhodes Chroma, Roland Jupiter 4, Jupiter 6, Jupiter 8, Publison DHM89 B2 with Keyboard 2000, Sequential Circuits Prophet T8, Yamaha DX7, NED Synclavier II, Roland TR 808 drum machine, Korg Mono/Poly, PPG Waveterm, PPG 2.2 etc.

wouldn't be surprised if there's some Prophet 5 and Pro One on it as well

An old issue of Electronic Soundmaker (or something similar) gave a very detailed breakdown on a free cassette, describing what was happening before playing individual samples or certain rhythms from the track, which they must have got direct from TD. Is that what you were referencing AK? Or have you got Chris Franke's notebook stashed away somewhere? :D

I believe the "interview" detailing the breakdown is on the "On Air" disc of the Tangerine Tree.

Deep explenation! Thank you very much.
Does the PPG waveterm a machine to transfer waves, make in a modular synth, into PPG wavetable? Is it right?
I'm a big fan of PPG & Waldorf.

The Waveterm allows you to sample sounds and transfer the data to the Wave. Waveterm makes no sound by itself.

You can also make your own waves and wavetables by additive synthesis and by sliceing up a sample into separate waveforms.

Hi,

You know what is really cool ... is being able to get the Jupiter 8 software package and recognize some of the sounds ... and many others that were indigenous to that specific time and place. Or any software package trying to emulate the old synths. Korg Legacy is another example, at least they were the original folks. Arturia's rendition is good, but is buggy and has no support.

In a way, it was much more difficult then as you had to go through 2 or 3 pieces of equipment ... and now you can do it with a laptop and some software!

The sad thing, is that for all this software out there, and the experimentation that it had in those days to help define the instrument, today ... it is barely used as an instrument of "sound creation" as it was then ... but just another background ditty to a song ... and in this even TD can sometimes sound like ... nice music ... way better than muzak, that's for sure!

What is this, Smart Arse Corner? Were you there in the studio with them?
