TANGERINE DREAM: VIRGIN YEARS 1974-1978 (3CD Set)

Post by cantosis »

Email from CDS

Over 3 CD's this set collects together the five LP's that Tangerine Dream recorded for Virgin Records between 1974 and 1978. It comes in an old style Thick Triple CD Jewel Case with a generous Booklet.
Artwork and Booklet details are still to be finalised, and we will email the details to you as soon as we have them.
The set includes albums:
1) Phaedra [1974 - International breakthrough album reaching # 15 in the UK charts]
2) Rubycon [1975 - Well received 2nd album, which utilized the then revolutionary technology, such as electronic organs, Moog synthesizers and Mellotron keyboards, among other instruments]
3) Ricochet [1975 - Includes concert recordings from their 1975 European Tour, where they often improvised]
4) Stratosfear [1976 - Combining acoustic instruments with their traditional battery of electronica, the trio created a more melodic sound]
5) Cyclone [1978 - A major change of direction from their previous instrumental releases, as the group moved in a more progressive direction, marking not only the departure of Peter Baumann, but the addition of vocalist Steve Jolliffe and percussion from Klaus Krieger.
Rare Single Releases and 7" Edits, as well as Two Rarely Heard Contemporary Radio Adverts augment these five highly influential albums.

interesting to see the 'infamous' banned adverts turning up. Well I'm guessing it's the radio adverts Virgin did anyway.

First post here omitted what CDS also wrote:
CD Services wrote:It's not going to make any difference to the collectors and completists among you, but if we are to be honest, we're a bit uncomfortable about going out on this one, but it's coming early in January 2011 and we have to offer it to you because if we don't, someone else surely will! So we're offering it out at the best price possible and we'll leave you to make your buy or not to buy decision...
And of course there is no problem to agree on that.

Hmmm - interesting.
A lot depends on the price and sound quality for me, but it will be nice to get these on CD as I only have Rubycon on SACD, and the Stratosfear CD I have is very poor quality...
The rest is on vinyl in my collection and therefore never makes it out of the house :-(
