I've done it with Windows Movie Maker before now but it was very fiddly.

Tried to use the new version of Windows Movie Maker today with no luck. Micro$oft have changed the way it performs, maybe they thought it was too easy to use.

Downloaded Audacity and the job was done in no time. Nice piece of software.

I've used Audacity to record my tunes as Digital Horizons for several years and found it does the job in a relatively straightforward and effective way.
Look for the sounds of Digital Horizons at http://digitalhorizons.bandcamp.com/ and on iTunes, CDBaby, Amazon Downloads and Reverbnation.
