Used Instruments in records

Post by TD-Fan »

Hi together

How can i find out wich instruments TD used in their records. I'm interested if possible in the instruments for every album.

Are there some informations about? How can I find out?
I'm playing Hard- and Softwaresynths, because of that it would be very interesting.

Thank you

welcome TD-Fan

many of TD's early albums listed the bands equipment that each member used either on the inside cover or on thee back - eg have a look at stratosfear (vinyl) or the inside of Zeit..... as for definitive listings of who played what and when and where, there are a number of resources on the net....

Wow, that's one heck of a question. I suppose the real question is "are there any sites on the internet that detail the equipment TD used during their career?". Sadly the answer is that I've not seen one. I wonder if anyone else can help.

BM is right though, many of the early albums did have equipment lists so you could try those. All of the recent releases however don't have lists so that will be problem.

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/1995_ar ... ream2.html

there are also listings on this forum (do a search)

there are many archives on the net as well as on the tD webring, tadream and blogs

one or two or three or four or more fans do keep lists of equipment used, , one geezer even archives what Tangerine Dream were wearing at each gig......especially the 1966-1970 era, which is very very 1966-1970.

as for modern TD (ie, 2000-2012). I suggest a reading of Picture palace music CDs and guess work on wot Edgar is using these daze.... I reckon mostly Mellotron mark V's and electronic harmonicas.... :P :P :P

Thank you very much bigmoog. Now I can start to explore the deeps of TD instruments.

Unfortunately I don't have any vinyls. I'm a iTunes child :?

But if anyone have scans from old inside covers ...

Have a ticket for the TD concert in Zurich on May 7 and was on the Lorely concert 2008.

It was only up to 'Cyclone' (1978) that TD listed the individual instruments used on each album. After this, the sleeve notes just read 'keyboards', 'synthesizers' etc.

I think it was Edgar who said that the history of Tangerine Dream is a history of the synthesizer. He is quite right.

There's a massive project for someone. Pretty difficult too as TD are quite secretive about what they use these days.

One exception was 'Poland', which lists instruments. See the 'What instruments?' thread.
