white eagle

Post by coldwater »

Just listened to the album again, after a lapse of a few years, through headphones at full blast: i had forgotten what a superb album this is (despite this tape hiss)

Anybody know the reason/idea behind the isolated percussion (can only liken it to a kid banging on a bucket) about 3 minutes into Mojave Plan? it is almost/is out of timing with the melodic rhythm.

white eagle along with hyperborea imho, are isolated tangmusic, often overlooked, and as such worth re visiting

I adore White Eagle - I had a dodgy cassette copy for ages, only replaced with a vinyl edition in the early nineties. In fact, I must give it a listen again... I've been neglecting the classics recently in favour of the more recent releases.

Will listen out for the drum anomaly in Mojave Plan - I love the idea it's Jerome!

The title track was the first TD I heard from a mates brother's copy. It didn't make me rush out and buy it but these days I love the whole album. Mojave Plan is immense and the use of electronic percussion is on occasions jaw dropping.

"White Eagle" is one of my all-time favourites! :D All four tracks are splendid: The title track has this famous haunting melody, "Convention Of The 24" is a meditative masterpiece, "Midnight In Tula" a highly energetic synth pop piece with lots of humour (and a nod to TDs collegues Kraftwerk in the intro) and "Mojave Plan" is my favourite 80's suite by the band, a cinematic journey through the Mojave desert.

Many perfer "Exit", "Logos" or "Hyperborea" to this release, but for me this will always be the number one!

Mojave plan is a real highlight - just the right degree of clinicality in the backdrop to perfectly frame the leads and sweeps - the extended live versions of the 1st phase are mesmerising
imho

lol...oh 'show'!!!!!!!!!....:D, no mate. The first time they played it (or at least the first time I heard it) it was at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1981 (second set, just after the interval)

W E was good at the Colston Hall on the 82 tour as well !.

I have a real soft spot for both W E and exit, Exit being the first TD LP I bought, and White Eagle cos its just amazing - centuries ahead of its time.
