The case for Big City Dwarves live in 2014

Post by tangential »

Good afternoon fellow dreamers....

OK. Just been listening to Big City Dwarves and 22 years on I still think the guitar solo is mesmeric.

We all have our favourites and I hope you get to hear yours on the forthcoming tour.

Who agrees with me that this would be a welcome addition to the set-list?

Thanks for reading.

I like "Big City Dwarves," but I highly doubt they would play it. It was written by Jerome, and so far, "Oriental Haze" was the only Jerome track I'm aware of that was performed without its composer, and only on the recent 2012 tour. So unless Jerome makes a surprise guest appearance or gives the band his blessing, the chances are slim. And, if anything, Jerome would probably choose a more well-known composition.

There was a Tangerine Dream quiz on some webpage that said "Big City Dwarves" was played as an encore one night during the 1992 tour, but I'm not sure if anyone can verify that.

I love Big City Dwarves. In the CD booklet, both Jerome and Edgar are credited as writers, but only Jerome is credited on vitn. Strange...

In 2007, there was a list published stating which tracks on TD albums were written solely by Jerome.

Big City Dwarves was one of them.

I have a copy of the pdf that I downloaded at the time.
It was when he had left the band.

Thank you all for your replies. I looked at the liner notes and thought it was a joint composition; however, it seems this may not be the case according to some posts here. Interesting.

I live in hope I will hear this live at some point!!

I believe there was a promo for this track which was a shortened version....is this true and has anyone heard it?

Thanks.

Geez, what a list! Had no idea Jerome had written all this by himself. Does that mean that Jerome and Edgar didn't write anything together? And it's remarkable that Jerome is responsible for the best tracks on most of the albums he worked on.

I haven't heard the shortened version, so I wouldn't know what was removed.

On the subject of compositions, I have a theory that Jerome helped Edgar with programming drumbeats on some tracks during the 90's and onward. It has been my understanding that rhythms cannot be copyrighted, which helps explain why an Edgar composition might also sound like something off Jerome's Dream Mixes (i.e., "Ça Va - Ça Marche - Ça Ira Encore" and "Yaroslaw Station"). That's probably why Jerome appears in the musician credits to soundtracks like Transsiberia and Mota Atma, even though they contain zero Jerome tracks. I think the CD insert for the re-release of Turn Of The Tides credits Jerome with "drums" on Edgar's tracks, but one should always be skeptical (some of the info isn't 100% accurate).

No, I don't think so. This one stops suddenly after 3:56.
