TD's music hits the brick face of Journalism

Post by 24db »

I had to share this piece of 'journalism', it's a classic :D

'Phaedra' (1974) was the album which brought them to wide public attention, a work of monumental beauty or boredom, depending on your point of view, on which they said all they really have to say. It's not "rock" music-their intentions lie more in the "serious" classical area (although Froese's 'Stuntman' (1979) has some refreshingly light-hearted moments), as do legions of other dreary, po-faced compatriots, best-known of whom is the dreadful Klaus Schulze No-one need own more than one Tangerine Dream album ('Phaedra'); no-one need own any Klaus Schulze album ...

I'll show the same lack of research or insight and not even bother to find our which one of the UK music weekies it came from ;)

lol...and this was a 'History of Electronic Music':

..."At the other end of the scale are Kraftwerk, mindful purveyors of robo-rhythms for the mindless masses."

Cheers mate, nice to know my IQ was so low :)

My favourite review contains this line (from memory):

'Last time I saw Edgar Froese he looked dead, judging by this music they should have checked his pulse'

Another classic Steve Lake quote:

from MAKE MEIN MUZAK, Melody Maker, april 6, 1974. Page 13

"...Tangerine Dream's history reads like a B-Movie script. It's all the brain child of Edgar Froese, a failed heavy guitarist...

...As far as I'm concerned "Phaedra" is gutless and spinelss, devoid of inspiration, imaginiation or plain old fashioned funk. But maybe a few hundred thousand potential record buyers can't be wrong"

Don't sit on the fence Steve, just say if you liked it! :D :D :D
