David Bowies's Berlin period

Post by Steve C »

Does anyone know if Bowie has spoken or written about his relationship with Edgar and Tangerine Dream during his years in Berlin?

In Sept. 2002 Bowie gave an interview in the German TAGESSPIEGEL and the first question was:

Whom would you like to meet next week when you will be in Berlin?

Bowie answered: I would like to meet Edgar again!

Edgar?

Bowie: Edgar Froese from Tangerine Dream. A very likeable chap. Edgar and his wife really helped me when I lived in Berlin back then.
At that time I experienced a difficult phase, suffered from tremendous pain. And they have supported me to get away from cocaine.
Yes, the both were very dear to me.

.......etc. (I just translated it....)

Thanks EtienneF and Nero - maybe we'll learn more when Edgar's book comes out. I'm not particularly a Bowie fan but I've always wondered what kind of music would have come out of a collaboration.

I guess that as Bowie has spoken about his troubles publicly, Edgar may feel able to touch on the subject having previously refused in order to give Bowie some privacy.
