Thorsten Quaeschning soundtrack "REMNANTS" + World

Post by 32 years + counting »

Hello everyone,

I am delighted to announce that Thorsten Quaeschning has written and performed the soundtrack to my 36 min. film REMNANTS.

The film will have its world premiere on Saturday 27th April at 10:00am, as part of the 'Widescreen Weekend' event in the Bradford International Film Festival, UK.

Shot in 4k resolution over the course of four years, REMNANTS charts the rise and fall of the Neolithic civilisation of Britain, via highly stylised, motion controlled timelapse cinematography, set only to Thorsten's score.

The film will be shown in its principal release format of 2k widescreen (the digital equivalent of 'Cinemascope') in the stunning Pictureville Theatre, probably the best cinema in England.

Aside from the inclusion of beautifully re-worked versions of DROWNING MOON and THE GRETCHEN TRAGEDY, the score is entirely original, and his 5.1 mix is absolutely gorgeous.

As director and cinematographer obviously I'm going to sound biased...but I genuinely feel this is Thorsten's masterpiece, and one the best electronic soundtracks ever.

It was such an incredible honour to work with him. Add to that, it was also tremendous fun!

Individual tickets are available for the screening. However, if you're going to make all the effort to get to Bradford, I can highly recommend you stay over one night and catch the CINERAMACANA section on the following Sunday morning, where you can see some wonderful + rare curiosities of widescreen cinema.

Or you can go all out and buy a pass for the whole weekend. If you've never experienced 3-strip CINERAMA, it's charming and amazing at the same time.

Please see below for all the links and details.

Hope to see a lot of you there, and please do introduce yourself if you come as a result of this forum.

Thank you,
Grant Wakefield.

P.S. A release of the soundtrack as a CD / download, and maybe/hopefully the 5.1 mix, is on the cards. I don't have any details yet, but will post as soon as I do.

P.P.S. I advise booking fairly soon.....'Widescreen Weekend' screenings are usually very popular.

Looks and sounds excellent. I wish I could go to the screening....

Cinerama: I used to go with my mum to the old Compton street cinerama...saw 2001 there.which was stunning..along with some other films, we would go and see 'this is cinerama' which had a section showing first person views in a roller coaster....we loved it....

Happy daze :D

Nice to see that TQ is working in the movie business. Let's hope he gets to score some feature films in the future.

Very nice visuals and sound. Is this like shown in the round (cinedome)? How can we over here across the pond be able to see this?

I guess this is a kind of wrap-around screen. Grant will have the details. Would look good in a Planetarium, I would think. The soundtrack, in 5:1 should be pretty awesome too :!: 8)

REMNANTS - SCREEN TYPE

Post by 32 years + counting »

Hi everyone,

Thanks for kind comments.

REMNANTS a wide, flat screen presentation - aspect ratio 2.38:1 (or 2048 x 858 px)....like good old Cinemascope, but digital.

Its companion film ANCIENT SKIES, however, is indeed a 'wrap-around' screen - the hemispheric FullDome format to be precise. I'm currently working on a re-cut from its original 46 min. running time to 25 mins. or so.

Incidentally, the soundtrack to this film was culled from existing works by Steve Roach, and two stunning commissions from Toby Marks (aka BANCO DE GAIA) and vocalist Zhenia Mahdi. Both their tracks are coming out on BANCO's new album APOLLO, released April 8th. Here's a preview:

https://soundcloud.com/bancodegaia/apol ... review-mix

Screenings worldwide are planned, and catch up with both film projects at:

www.ancientskies.info

Totally snowed under with editing at the moment, but web site should open back up in a month or two.

Best,
Grant.

P.S. TQ's 5.1 mix IS awesome....!!!.....subtle and gorgeous.
