Cheers Jon.

I've always like this soundtrack, in particular "Dancing on a White Moon".

Well I never got a response from BuySoundtrax, nor even an email to say the CD had been dispatched but, after six weeks, it's finally here! Flimsily packaged, inevitably the case is cracked. So not a good buying experience, all told.

However this new release of the sountrack is worth getting hold of as it comes with some great liner notes (by one Randall D Larson) based around an interview with Paul Haslinger who recalled how the band worked with the film's director, Andrei Konchalovsky. I won't go into detail here but it seems that he was so impressed with TD's earlier material that he assumed that, like himself, the band was classically trained.

There is also some explanation as to why different singers were used "on-screen" - basically the decision to use vocals/lyrics was made at the last minute and there was a slip-up with arranging appropriate contractual and licensing agreements.

The three bonus tracks are essentially echoes of parts of the existing tracks and don't really add to the release.

Overall sound quality is good if not outstanding. It's better than Silva Screen's original 1987 release, with crisper mid, treble and bass, albeit the latter is slightly "muddy", though that's probably due to shortcomings with the original recording equipment.

The only thing missing is a reproduction of the lyrics - "Dancing on a White Moon" still has some inpenetrable vocals! I know they're available on some old websites but I've never been convinced that they are entirely correct!

Thanks for the info.

I would love to read the full notes, but I'm not interested enough to actually buy the thing!

I think my 1988 Silva Screen CD sounds just fine.

I wonder if Konchalovsky ever considered TD for Tango & Cash in 1989? Instead he hired another german synth wizard, Harold Faltermeyer.

It's a shame they didn't do Tango and Cash, I remember that was a big film at the time and maybe would have got them more exposure, kind of like them missing out on doing Miami Vice for Michael Mann.

Well, I must say that I'm very happy with Harold's score from Tango & Cash.

Here is the whole thing:

Also in Miami Vice I'm very happy with the music by Jan Hammer, John Petersen and Tim Truman.

But of course, I'm sure TD would have done great on both projects.
