Phaedra 35th anniversary dvd question

Post by EricDraven »

I don't know if this has been addressed elsewhere but, does anyone know what the 5 small pulsating squares at the top of the picture just below the black bar are? Most annoying! This is on the limited 2dvd version [which I thought was supposed to be numbered, as mine wasn't]:x Are all of them this way?

I've tried the DVD on various systems and too be honest (IMHO) I can barely see them...perhaps it's a problem with very large TVs, or ones where you can't vary the screen ratio and remove the black bars completely? Just a guess. Here's what the squares look like (a greatly enlarged section of a screen grab):

I know things are different these days, but I used to sell (B&O & Panasonic) TV's along with the specialist audio that was my "thang."

Even on B&O, who quality control their products almost out of existance, the geometry could sometimes vary a little, just enough to just show or just hide these bars at the top of the picture. The Panasonics were much "looser" in their setup and the height and width could vary quite a bit, but still be in proportion.

I'm not sure modern TV screens allow height and width adjustment as computer monitors do. One of the later Star Wars films on DVD had a superb picture alignment section in one of the menu's...

My Toshiba CRT TV allows user height and width adjustment, as well as about 5 or 6 preset ratios.

Geometries have gone to pot though, the last Sony TV I had a wonky horizontal...which even with picture tilt still looked P****d ;)

I kind of agree Jacob, although it's a bit like the stain on the carpet...once you know about it, you'll always look for it ;)

Mine is the same as yours Eric - NOT numbered and the sound quality, well, plain DREADFUL - compared to Tempodrome, this is pathetic!

Not happy at all!

It's personal thing I guess, but I have seen far worse flaws on TD dvds.

I know it's annoying when things aren't as good as we hoped for, but....we're lucky to have anything from that gig. IMHO the soundtrack comes from 2 or 3 sources...including the fan recording, so it's no great surprise that the sound isn't perfect. However it's still a great mento from one of TD's best gigs.
