solo 74/79

Post by NAVEL OF LIGHT »

Back in the days when vinyl ruled the world, my first EF solo album on the big black plastic was Solo 74/79.

As the only other solo album i had heard was the legendary (and still missing from my collection in its orginal form :-( ) Epsilon In Malaysian Pale, 74/79 was a fantastic album for me including tracks i knew id own one day, from Stuntman etc, and ones that are again harder to find in the orginal form from Macular Transfer.

I loved the cover, EF in his hat from above and the back of the sleeve, EF walking across a baron desert...a picture surely inspired by the track 'Drunken Mozart In The Desert'.

I know we've had the superb Beyond the Storm and excellent Orange Light Years since but what i wouldnt do to have an orginal of the Solo 74/79 album and the priceless Epsilon In Malaysian Pale on cd.

Imagine a beautiful digipak unfolding with the lush green fern leaves with a nice thick booklet with pics and thoughts on 'epsilon'.

My life would be complete...well...kind of. ;-)

First of all NoL: Vinyl still rules :wink: It's just a matter of time before the CD is gone...

The problem is that Virgin still has the copyright to these recordings, and I dont't think that it will happen in our lifetime that they will make them available again...and that's becaus money rules :oops: :oops:

Your right my fiend, in some 'business minds', money does rule but surely the money they would rake in from sales of these rereleases would surely make sense for the 'copyright' holders involved.
In my world, music rules and Edgar is king. :-)

Top ORGINAL RECORDINGS rerelease wishlist:

* Epsilon In Malaysian Pale

* Macula Transfer

* Zoo Of Tranquility (theta)

* Kamikaze 1989

I know some of these are available as a download but id like a physical format!

Of course - you are absolutlely right :!:
If Virgin were to re-release f.ex. EIMP they would sell out in no time. Just look at the prices people are prepared to pay on E-Bay for copies of this material...
Not to mention "R'76" and "THN" by PB - it's a disgrace that these great albums are not available to the general public :evil: :evil:

forgot about the Peter Bauman releases.
I got Trans Harmonic Nights and Repeat Repeat for just £1 each about 2 years back at a second hand record shop.
I also know someone who has the orginal of Zoo Of Tranquility but wont part with it.

The really REALLY annoying thing for me is that i held an orginal theta version of Zoo Of Tranquility in my hands in oxford street many years back but didnt buy it because i didnt have a cd player at the time and was unsure myself if compact discs would catch on! Ok, when youve finished laughing, have a bit of sympathy? :-(

Solo 1974 - 1979 was also my first venture into the solo works of a certain Mr. E. Froese - general all round musical magician. 8)

I didn't realise at the time , but quite a few of the tracks on this FABULOUS release are remixed versions of the originals. I played this to an inch of it's spinning life when I was 14, this is were I realsised how AMASING in composition Edgar really was ,after hearing the INCREDIBLE Drunken Mozart in the Desert. 8) 8) 8)

I bought solo 74/79 for a pound from wh smiths. I didn't like it at the tome appart for the Stuntman tacks. These days it sits nicely with the other EF LP's. I must dig it out soon an have a listen as it's been ages since it's been turned. This compilation was never given a release on CD which is a pity as some of the tracks are exclusive to the album.

No laughing on my part, my friend :roll: We have all done our mistakes over the years...

If you want to laugh at me: At the moment I'm listening to Motörhead's "Ace of Spades" on vinyl -and I'm loving it :wink: :D :) :wink:

Nowt wrong with the Ace of Spades, great way to start a saturday night if you ask me. :-) :-) :-)

Now this is funny....
When i did eventually start buying compact discs, my first two bought at the same time as my compact disc player. They were HYSTERIA by Def Lepard (something to do with my girlfriend at the time) so to maintain my street cred & halt embarrassment with the rather beautiful record shop assistant, i purchased SO by the very excellent Peter Gabriel too. Needless to say, the latter has had many more spins.

24db...interesting news...can you not say anymore? I cant stand the tease! :-)

I also got the 'Phase by Phase' compilation by PB for £5. Good album on the Virgin 'classic cuts' label.

Strange that virgin are interested in reissuing music by Peter Bauman whos apparently 'so far removed from the music industry' now (apparantly running a retirement home for retired golfers?), than issuing music by Edgar who is still very active in the music business!

Dont get me wrong, what PB does now doesnt belittle his music career (perish the thought...almost blasphemy) but its just odd as youd think more people would be interested in the EF releases. Or is it just me?

All I can add is that a small 'specialist' label has been asked if they might be interested...and as far as I know that's as far as it's got (btw don't read into the small specialist bit...it has nothing to do with TDI or Eastgate). Sorry, I'd love to be able to tell you that the first two Baumann CDs were going to be available 100%.

It's funny that as you say Virgin hasn't any interest in other TD stuff, and yet I saw about 30 copies of Aqua in a record shop the other week (the original mix I mean, not the recent remix)

Going back to something i mentioned earlier, that some of the 'missing' albums are available as download, has anyone downloaded the 'Zoo Of Tranquility' from JS' website?

Just wondered what the sound quality was like?

The Theta copy i heard was a tad quiet...dont stop me wanting it though!
