TD music on Iranian state TV

Post by Cyclone »

Interesting: the (only apparently) conservative Iranian TV uses TD music from time to time: today Ghazal (Love Song) was the background music for an Olympia report.

I did some copies of TD boots for a guy in Sweden who brought me a bootleg from Iran. It's an MP3-cd in a cardboard cover called "Great Musicians". On the back is a photo from the 1996 SBE gig. It also features Ghazal as a part of the OR album, along with other albums.
The guy said to me that Rock music is literally banned in Iran, so it's quite interesting that TD get's "airplay" on TV.

One important factor could be the lack of demoralizing western lyrics. Also, I wouldn't exactly describe Ghazal as rock music.

This is what got them permission to play behind the iron curtain was it not?

It was indeed, as far as I remember.

Fair play, but they're not really a "rock" band. AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Metallica: they're rock bands. :P

 You beat me to it!

I can see it now; the majestic music of TD whilst rockets streak across the sky to destroy targets of the evil West.

By no means I wanted to steer the discussion in this direction. Better, we do not simply divide up the world into good and bad. All the governments are hardly different, but the people in the whole world are humans like us.

What I wanted to say: it's nice to see my favourite music is played also there, where one hardly suspects it.

Edgar should play in Tehran (so how it will make Chris du Burgh soon, how I heard) and he would presumably have a Most Beautiful Rock for Peace full stadium scenario. :)

If any one can make a difference then it's TD.

.....but I fear that it's a bit of an impossible mountain to climb.

Hope they don't do that when they send their rockets to another country.
Or was it all Photo gallery? :D

if you look very closely you can see Chris Franke waving ;)

At least we'll all have something nice to listen to for the 4.2 nano seconds it takes for all the warheads to explode...Madness indeed, while people starve
