way too many people from the Wire involved to get any rounded view IMHOdreamerofdreams wrote:Looking forward to this book on Krautrock

I'll probably do the same I think it'll focus on the 'influence' part quite a lot...so any old group who feels they should namedrop Krautrock will get a mention...and given it's the Wire the slant will be towards the ART side of things (people ****ing into a bucket and calling it music or not )dreamerofdreams wrote:You are probably right Andy, but I will give it a go.24db wrote:way too many people from the Wire involved to get any rounded view IMHOdreamerofdreams wrote:Looking forward to this book on Krautrock

Very well put mate. I do prefer autobiographies for that reason. They were there and tell it as it was. Would love to see a Conrad Schnitzler book, for one. A lot of people have spoken about Julian Cope's book, but I have never read it as yet. I think it will be an interesting book, but, as you say, how much is factual remains to be seen.24db wrote:I'll probably do the same I think it'll focus on the 'influence' part quite a lot...so any old group who feels they should namedrop Krautrock will get a mention...and given it's the Wire the slant will be towards the ART side of things (people ****ing into a bucket and calling it music or not )dreamerofdreams wrote:You are probably right Andy, but I will give it a go.24db wrote: way too many people from the Wire involved to get any rounded view IMHO
Most of the books that have come out before (readable although flawed) have at least be written by fans of the music. The major flaw (let's call it the KDM-Flaw )...is that the authors weren't alive or into the music when it first came out, therefore they think (insert namedropping Krautrock act here) can walk on water (with 2009 rose tinted glasses fully on), but in reality sold next to nothing in Germany at the time and only 6 people and goat called Fritz went to see them live. The cultural side of the music is lost and therefore the right distance/ weight isn't given to the subject matter. These days with so few facts around you can reasemble Krautrock's history into any order you like, a musical version of the assassination of JFK or the Jack the Ripper murders. Doesn't make it any less interesting, but whether it was what happened in reality is anybodies guess
