PETER GABRIEL

Post by NAVEL OF LIGHT »

is Peter Gabriel of the best solo artists ever?

In my opinion, yes. He is one of the few artists who can mix so many emotions in his songs....not an easy thing to do.

His live shows are immense. Just check out the dvds of his 'Secret World' & 'Growing Up' tours. Fantasic stuff!

Must admit that the only record of his that I have listened to was his first solo - the one with Modern Love on it. I thought that record was excellent. I'll have to catch up with some of his later stuff.

Security (or IV) is one of the greatest albums EVER recorded.

Genius?

Absolutely.

IMHO, of course. :)

Indeed - as is his Birdy score (although the recording level on the remastered edition is far too low for my tastes).

A very unique artist with a voice like no one else. I own all his albums faves being 'Us' , 4 ,3 I love the passion album but have to be in the mood for that one. His early work with Genesis still stands up today .

There was a very interesting Gabriel interview with him discussing TD and the film "Sorcerer" that appeared on YouTube and I think was posted here a while back. I believe he was originally offered also to work on the score for Freidkin's film but work commitments at the time didn't allow.

Great track and album Tim. I was in Paris with a good friend at the time who I went to the French premier of the film. When it was done we all were escorted out of the cinema by the police due to the protesters...madness!!

I thought the film was pretty impressive - but probably due to going against what Christians have been brainwashed with over the centuries, many took offence -just like the Life of Brian !

despite not being interested in Peter's output, I think he is a very talented and genuine musician, in fact his championing of world music, introduced me to much great music.....he is a great ambassador for creativity in music....I salute him!

Peter Gabriel is a very talented chap. I love most of his output. He's always coming out with great ideas and he's worked with some really great musicians, Tony Levin and Larry Fast to name just two.
