Bloody awfull CD except Long Island Sunset IMHO

I've always rather liked it, each to their own etc etc. As others have said better than some albums TD have produced (old and new).
The standout instrument on it, was and still is Edgar's guitar, he's the man!

LOTB, sat on my shelf for several years before I gave it another go. It'll never be one of my favourites, but it's a lot better than I originally gave it credit for.timer wrote:Think I will give this another listen !>

Lily is a nice album to listen to on an ipod on a sunny day like today, seems to fit the atmosphere nicely, Melrose and OR are also ideal IMHO for a summers day. I enjoy these albums these days

Freaky Mooger, I have come to the exact same conclusion as you. I used to HATE Lilly on the Beach. I thought it was a terrible album at the time. God awful light listening. But on further analysis, I can see serious amounts of greatness in there. The power of these Private Year albums is in the compositions rather than the experimental nature of sound. TD really cranked out some awesome tunes during the Private Years. These albums are easily the best produced albums they ever made. The sound quality is immaculate. I wish today's TD recordings sounded half that good.bigmoog wrote:at the time

LOTB was probably the first album i bought (casette at the time) after being introduced by a firends (limited) vinyl collection (white eagle, tyger and exit). As such i'm very fond of it.
My fondness extend to a recent attempt to have long island sunset played at my recent wedding, but we decided against it in the end. Not because it was deemed unsuitable but my wife explained that:
1) not many people would know it, though she admitted it was pleasant enough not to require prior listening, but mainly
2) she did didn't want me and an usher drifting off into a tangerine daydream and conducting our invisable orchestra when i should really be saying "i do"
So, I revised my plans and tried to convince her that the DJ could play TD all evening, as:
1) no one really enjoys dancing at weddings, and
2) people would enjoy some really good music.
Consequenlty I designed a playlist, for the reception. But again it never really got of the ground. I've learnt that weddings are really about the bride wants, not the groom.
Anyway, love LOTB, one of my favourite albums, probably with LOS as my fave track. Just have to get it added to my will that it is played at my funeral - can't see anyone stopping that.

I like it a lot. Ican still remember the LP turning up in Our Price back in the days before internet. I bought it about one week before Xmas and have fond memories listening to it. I agree Long Island Sunset is a great track. I love the kinda egyptian reggae feel to Valley of the Kings too.
