Looking back at Green Desert

Post by epsilon75 »

A largely forgotten gem IMHO with the totally stunning title track with Edgar's delicious guitar and PF resemblances. I often wondered what would have happened had this been released in 1973 and TD had not signed to virgin.

1986 re-mixed or not there is some wonderful music on this album 8)

The title track especially still gives me great listening pleasure........ :D
RIP Edgar. I am going to miss you.

The Title track is another Edgar guitar masterstroke - I love its mellowness along with fabulous drum line.

I suppose if we had been privaleged to this in 1973 - the course of TD history may have been completely different.

Green Desert is a sympathetic release. It's not the best TD music around but always nice to listen to.

A very pleasant album. Nice to chill out too. I seem to remember the origins of this music causing quite a bit of discussion on the net but when it's this good who cares where it came from.

I really like this album even though it appears a bit of an afterthought

I like the album, but most of it is not 73-recording.
Especially the guitar has the typical 80s Edgar sound.

Love this album, probably by favorite non TD soundtrack. First TD album I ever owned (unless you count the Streethawk 12" single) after hearing White Clouds I was hooked.

I have 4 different Green Desert version and 3 have different cover art:
Original Relativity cassette - fits the mood and title of the album very nicely.
Original Relativity CD - same as cassette cover, fits the mood and title of the album best.
Original Jive/Electro CD- was this the same cover as the one in the "In The Beginning" LP box?
Castle remaster CD - front cover is the underside of a h0t air balloon photo??? I don't get it. Nice back cover photo does fit the mood of the album at least.

The Original Relativity artwork is my favorite, it also is the best sounding version on CD that I have ever heard. Most of those original Relativity CD's were great sounding; Green Desert, Poland and Le Parc. I only have the Jive Underwater Sunlight. so don't know about the Relativity on that one.

"Green Desert" makes Pink Floyd sound like a kindergarten band!

I would place Green Desert in the very top bracket of TD albums. When I first heard it I was amazed that such a top quality collection had flown under the radar so much.

And in comparison, "Blue Dawn" makes Pink Floyd sound like a SFO band!
