Absolute bargain! Those Akais were great decks - I had a mate with one and it weighed a tonne..

Somehow I think Cash Converters saw it as nothing more than an old tape deck.

Much the same way they saw the Meridian 206 as nothing more than an old CD player
Occasionally recording as Chromengel: Click here for the music

They knew what a Quad FM3 was though :x

All you people slagging off Mini-Disc obviously never used one, let alone sell the cream of the medium - a TEAC reference machine. Once Sony got the digital compression right the format worked a treat and would have been great in-car.

Metal cassettes were fine, but even CrO2 ones lost treble over the years and more than a few playings (even on a Nak - and I've owned seven of the beggars over the years to my knowledge) will shave quiet sounds away...

SEVEN NAKAMICHI'S? - I couldn't believe it myself, but it's true...

Ive used Mini disc for years for putting down song ideas, and its ideal for that , but if I record a mastered track then convert to CD - the stereo field suffers badly.

I'm on my fifth now! (and still have four of them  ).

Re. losing treble, at least you can adjust plays fantastically EQ on most Naks. Not ideal, but it still adds a little brightness.

the quality of minidiscs are farout the best I guess. But ipod and mp3 player are the smallest and easiest., therefore my choice Ipod.

Portable CD players are indeed awkward to use sometimes. I have one currently gathering dust under the bed. There are so little new models available now as it's all I-pod's and MP3 players. Mini Discs are almost impossible to find here and players even harder to find.
